YMCA

Have you visited the new Kraft Family YMCA on Holly Springs Road? Well, the YMCA has visited SCBC, and they like what they have seen! So much so, in fact, that we have agreed to a partnership with the Kraft Family YMCA to begin a half-day preschool at Swift Creek next Fall.

We will continue to offer our Mother’s Morning Out Ministry for infants up to two years old – now for five days a week. The Y will offer preschool here for 2 year olds on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and for 3 year olds on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The hours will be from 9am until 12 noon. The Y will handle all of the responsibilities, including personnel (they are offering our teachers the first opportunities to work for them), payroll (relieving our staff and volunteer treasurer), publicity, supplies, insurance, etc.

Space does not permit a comprehensive explanation of the significance of this partnership, but please feel free to contact me or Krista McClain or Kristie Ayscue with any questions or concerns you may have. However, I will say that we visited a church in Cary that has partnered with the Y in this ministry for the past 12 years, and we were completely impressed. The Y provides things like computers, toys, playground equipment, and needed building improvements (all of which are for the church’s use when they are not here). They also bring a very positive reputation and common Christian mission to the partnership. They have agreed to promote our church in their publications and through the preschool communications, and they expect to bring an additional 50-60 children to our church each week – children from families we will have the opportunity to reach! In return for using our space, the Y will make a significant monthly contribution to Swift Creek. This is guaranteed fixed income that will go into our General Budget Fund. Simply put, this is a win-win for both the YMCA and SCBC!

Our church staff, our MMO staff, our deacons, our finance committee, and our church council are all very excited about this wonderful opportunity. Please be in prayer for the YMCA and our MMO staff and children during this transition. To aid the transition, our MMO will operate their previously planned 2 day Summer program, while the YMCA will operate a 3 day program. Then in the Fall, the YMCA will begin their 5 day program while we continue to offer infant care simultaneously.

The fact that the YMCA approached us about this partnership is a testament to the tremendous job that our MMO has done over the last few years. I would like to especially thank Kristie Ayscue for her dedication and leadership since we began our MMO Ministry, and for her selfless efforts to make this partnership a reality.

I am confident that God will bless this stewardship of resources and cooperative effort between SCBC and the YMCA.
